Have Camera, Will Shoot – Meet Tara Glenn

Just recently I met Tara Glenn, an amazing photographer in Pensacola with a true eye for capturing beautiful photographs.  She has a talent for using natural light and flattering angles.  She also shot the latest photos of my coastal scarf collection with a local model.

“I guess you could say I have always been very artistic. I recall my older brother accusing me of making my mom color pages and then claim them as my own, but my interest in photography and art really began in the third grade. A photographer came to our class and handed out cameras for us to use for the day, and we went around the school and the neighborhood taking photos of whatever we wanted. I got back some very nice photos, with compliments from the photographer herself on a few of them. I’ve been hooked ever since.
I have always wanted to be a photographer, but I didn’t see it in any way possible until 2010. I was away training with the Navy, and bought my first DSLR. I started practicing immediately, and enrolled in classes soon after the purchase at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
I find inspiration in the everyday things in life, but mainly in things that people aren’t normally inspired by.
The photograph series that really inspired me before joining the Navy was a series called Teeth by Adam Perella. He basically took photographs of people’s teeth and blew them up into large prints. I was very impressed with that gallery showing. I’m also mostly inspired by the photographers around me, Olivia Locher, Jessica Harris. Photographers that inspire me that are not in my circle of friends would include Kristen Mackey, Jessi Fields, Alex Michelle, and Jen Mcken.
My children love anything art related. Paint, pencils, crayons, photography, clay. If they can get their hands on it, they’re happy. My husband has been dabbling in pastels and cross-stitching, though he has an interest in oil paints as well. I’m much like my children. I have a love for all forms and mediums of art, and I love playing and experimenting, but I mainly stick to photography.
My son is in third grade at N.B. Cook Elementary School of the Arts. Every year at his school, the 3, 4, and 5th grade classes go on a field trip to NYC for 3 days to see broadway shows, go to museums, and they also take a trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, among other activities. He really wants to go, so he is helping to raise his own money for the trip by selling his prints of his own photography.
