Pinstrosity: A Pinterestly Good Site

Have you tried to make anything from the hundreds of pins you tactfully tack on Pinterest? I’ve tried a few. Some did not taste as yum-tackular as promised, but the idea was worth the effort of finding out.

Check out this site. She attempts pin after pin, documenting her results. It’s entertaining to say the least!

Let’s Get Digital – Scrapbook Template Creator: Cheryl

Cheryl is an amazing creator of digital pages. I had to idea to what extent until I checked out her webpages. Read her story in her own words (below).

“My mother would be the first person who ever inspired my creative side.  She’s an artist (as well as a teacher), and continues to encourage me to this day to explore my creativity.  In addition to my mother, my children inspire me to be creative and are usually the beginning of every scrapbook page I make.

I began digital scrapbooking in August 2007 and shared my first digital creations at DigiShopTalk, but since then I’ve participated in several digital scrapbooking forums and galleries where I can share my art with others who have the same passion I do for scrapbooking.

On a daily basis, I use Photoshop Elements, Lightroom 3 and ACDSee (to organize files and photos) when I’m creating digital scrapbook pages.  I also get my hands dirty and paint as well as pull out the glue to make hybrid projects (using digital art supplies by printing them out and using them like traditional paper scrapbooking supplies).  I create collages with ephemera and old photographs.  This summer I made a junque journal that houses all those miscellaneous pieces like tickets, announcements, cards, and notes.  There was a lot of inking, taping, tearing and gluing going on!

Well, in addition to my mom and children, I’m often inspired by decorating magazines and bloggers.  Material patterns, the way objects are arranged, shapes . . . well, it all feeds into my creativity and usually ends up with me creating!

This year I was published in a book (digital and print versions) called Everyday Storyteller (http://www.everydaystoryteller.com/).  It was amazing to see my picture and my name in print, along with some of my digital art.  Overall, though, I’d have to say my greatest accomplishment is seeing my family pull out my scrapbooks and look through them with smiles on their faces.  It reminds me that in addition to letting my creativity out, I’m also keeping our memories.

Rock On!

Take a break from the seriousness of your day, and give yourself a crafty time out.  This link will take you to a simple project (kids will LOVE it) that just may give your mind the break it needs. It’s a cute tutorial for making a pet rock…a pet rock MONSTER that is. And if that’s not enough it’s also a functional magnet.

Think of it as pre-Halloween decoration.

Flowers: All Beauty, No Allergies

I saw these incredible massive paper flowers at a friend’s party recently. They were casually nested above the dining room table like a fantastic chandelier. They looked like something from Pottery Barn. As it turns out she made them. And even better she has a tutorial on her blog. She’s an ace with party decorations. Check out APartyStudio.

About a year ago I saw tissue pom-poms for the first time on the Martha Stewart website. Sometimes people call them paper flowers and you can totally see why. Don’t they look like enormous dahlias?  I thought they looked beautiful and are a great alternative to paper lanterns for party decorations. Isn’t this beautiful:

I have decided to make a more detailed tutorial because there are a couple tricks to getting perfect, full pom-pons. The two most important would be to use good quality tissue paper. I once helped a neighbor make large pom-pons and she’d brought her tissue paper at T J Maxx. It was very thin paper and the final pom-pons drooped. For these pom-poms, I used tissue paper from American Greetings and it worked great. Each pack contains 9 sheets. If you want even fuller pom-poms you will need to use 12 to 16 sheets all together.

Extreme Crafting: Crocheted Paper

I love the serene feeling that overcomes me when I am creating – whether making a wreath, crocheting or painting.  This article wows me. It’s crafting taken to the extreme. The only thing missing is a blindfold and suspension.  What a workout!
