The New Therapy

Recently I visited an organic farm. I didn’t know what to expect, other than some fresh vegetables and hormone-free roaming poultry.  My first surprise was that blueberries grew on trees, and they had an entire orchard of them. So much for the tiny wild plants that grew on shaded banks from my childhood.  As I looked throughout the branches of these small trees, I felt a peace I haven’t felt in years. Time stopped. It was sweltering hot, but with the slight breeze, was unnoticeable. There were rows and rows of blueberry trees in perfect glory, free from insects, blight and pesticides. It was quiet. The sounds of life were a few people, the rustle of robust leaves in the breeze, and occasionally a turkey or chicken would sound.  It felt so nice just to be there, un-contained; no stress of what I could be doing instead, or pressure to complete a mindless task. The air was not only fresh, but without the fumes of suburbia.  It was divine. It was life, blooming and breathing all around. My, how I’ve missed it.
